HUMANIZACIÓN DEL DOLOR Y SUFRIMIENTO HUMANO EN EL CONTEXTO HOSPITALARIO
Este artículo busca realzar la importancia y la necesidad de la dimensión humana en el cuidado del dolor y sufrimiento humano en el ámbito de la salud, específicamente en el hospital. Hoy, se habla mucho y se reclama de la deshumanización de las instituciones de la salud. El hospital refleja esa problemática como un espejo, lo que de peor y mejor sucede en nuestra sociedad deshumanizada y deshumanizante. La humanización de esta institución pasa, obligatoriamente, también por la humanización de este universo mayor condicionante de la sociedad. En lo referente al cuidado digno del dolor y sufrimiento humano, el sistema de salud brasileño todavía está en una fase rudimentaria. Hay mucho por hacer en términos de operacionalización de políticas públicas relacionadas con el tema, como intervenir en el aparato formador de profesionales para crear una nueva cultura. En un contexto de creciente tecnificación del cuidado, es urgente el rescate de una visión antropológica holística, que cuide del dolor y del sufrimiento humano en sus varias dimensiones, o sea, física, social, psíquica, emocional y espiritual. Más allá de la difícil respuesta a la cuestión del "por qué" del dolor y sufrimiento, campo de las filosofías y religiones, el cuidado solidario, que coliga competencia técnico-científica y humana, en medio del dolor y sufrimiento del otro, es una oportunidad preciosa para dejar tocar nuestra sensibilidad y humanizarnos en el proceso

A HUMAN APPROACH TO HUMAN PAIN AND SUFFERING IN A HOSPITAL SETTING
This paper addresses the importance of a badly needed approach to the human dimension of efforts to alleviate the pain and suffering experienced in the context of healthcare in general and hospitals in particular. Many complaints and references are made these days to the dis-humanization of healthcare institutions. Nowhere else are these problems more clearly mirrored than at hospitals, revealing the best and the worst facets of our inhuman and dis-humanizing societies. Thus, the humanization of hospitals necessarily requires the humanization of society at large. With regard to a dignifying approach to human pain and suffering, the Brazilian health system is still at a very rudimentary stage. Much needs to be done to stimulate public policies on the issue, as well as to effect changes in the professional education apparatus intent on creating a new culture. In a context marked by the increasing technologization of medical care, it is imperative to restore a holistic anthropologic view of human pain and suffering, be it physical, social, psychological, emotional, or spiritual. In addition to answering the question of "why" people experience pain and suffering, a territory better covered by philosophy and religion, the one-to-one provision of care, mixing technical and scientific knowledge with human virtues in view of the pain and suffering of others, presents us with a precious opportunity to develop sympathy and become more human in the process.
